Jacomino is an electronic music project by the Sicilian producer Santi Loreno. His sound has strong influences from World Music. In the past, Santi played the drums in various rock, prog and grunge genres bands. He also produced trip-hop, jungle, house and other electronic music subgenres. His desire to create evocative soundscapes led him to approach the use of ethnic sounds, which allowed him to obtain the Jacomino project’s distinctive music style.
The “J2022” album
The “J2022” album was published by the independent Italian label theDustRealm Music on May 13th. It contains thirteen extended evocative tracks rich in ethnic/world music nuances laid over an electronic music core. J2022 carries the listener on a 78-minute rhythmic journey between Persia and traditional Sicily. The work evokes different soundscapes, ranging from warm oriental afternoons to dancefloor nights. Twelve tracks are rearranged and improved versions of pieces composed over time by the artist. The last piece is an unreleased song produced from scratch for the occasion. All the tracks of Jacomino’s J2022 have been written, produced and mixed by Santi Loreno, and mastered by Peanuke at theDustRealm Home Studio.
The album’s cover design displays an artwork crafted by the painter Salvo Cubeta (also drummer of the Sicilian band Qbeta). Salvo uses an ancient “subtractive” technique to create his pictorial works: he spreads the colours over a plexiglass board and then scratches them away.
